2014 Basketball

THE PROGRAM
The Carrollton Boosters basketball program is a recreational, intramural program for boys aged 5–13 and girls aged 5-12 as of August 31, 2013. The program will once again be coordinated by Basketball Commissioner Darren Mire, who can be contacted at 913-9692 or at
basketball@carrolltonboosters.org . Questions regarding the girls’ program can be directed to Rini Marcus at 261-0119 or at rinimarcus@aol.com.

The program consists of the following leagues, to which registered players are assigned based on what their age was on Aug. 31, 2013:

5-year old mixed: Boys and Girls who were 5 on Aug 31, 2013
6-7 Boys: Boys who were 6 or 7 on Aug 31, 2013
8-9 Boys: Boys who were 8 or 9 on Aug 31, 2013
10-11 Boys: Boys who were 10 or 11 on Aug 31, 2013
12-13 Boys: Boys who were 12 or 13 on Aug 31, 2013
5-8 Girls: Girls who were 5, 6, 7, or 8 on Aug 31, 2013
9-12 Girls: Girls who were 9, 10, 11 or12 on Aug 31, 2013

Note: 5-year old Girls can play in either the coed 5-year old league or the 5-8 Girls league.

All players are drafted onto teams, then play a schedule of games from mid-January through the end of March, with a break for Mardi Gras. All games will be played at Newman school, with most games being at the Tuohy gym on Danneel St, and some games, towards the end of the season, being at the Palaestra on Jefferson Ave.
The 5-year olds and 6-7 Boys play on Saturdays, and the other leagues play on weeknights, plus the older boys will also play on Sunday evenings.

Coaches will schedule practices after the teams are drafted. 5-year olds and 6-7 Boys generally do not practice outside of their Saturday game time slot.

REGISTRATION
To register, click on the registration tab and follow the procedure. The fee is $125 for your first child, plus $100 per additional child. If registering more than one child, be sure to register all children before checking out. You may pay on line by credit card or you may choose the option to send a check, but note that your registration is not considered complete until fees are paid. Players who are not registered will not be graded or drafted onto teams.

For assistance with the registration process, or for payment assistance, contact Alan Godchaux at 352-8290 or algodch@aol.com.

GRADING and DRAFTING
All players, except for the 5-year olds and the 6-7 Boys, must be graded. Grading will be held at the Newman Tuohy gym on Danneel St. in early January. Consult our web site later in December for the grading schedule. You will also be notified by e-mail.
By registering your child, you agree to having him or her placed in a player draft, during which any of our volunteer coaches may pick him or her onto a team.  Carrollton Boosters does not guarantee placement of any player onto any particular team, or onto a team with any particular other player(s).  The only exceptions are that coaches get to pick their own children, and that siblings are placed on the same team, unless otherwise requested by their parent/guardian.  After players have been drafted onto a team, registration fees will not be refunded or credited, except in cases of illness or injury.

COACHES
When registering your child or children for soccer, please consider coaching your child’s team. Carrollton relies on volunteer parents to coach its teams. Coaching is an excellent way to not only develop a greater appreciation for basketball, but to also form a special bond with your son or daughter as the season progresses. In order to coach, simply answer “yes” to the question when registering, then also register yourself as a coach, and we will contact you.

SPONSORS
Another fun way to contribute to the program is to sponsor your child’s team. Sponsors select the team’s colors and name, and may include a business name and logo as well. The fee is $275 and can be paid with your child’s registration or can be paid by a separate check. Simply answer “yes” to the sponsor question when registering your child. Later, after you have completed the registration, return to our web site and click on the “basketball sponsor forms” tab in order to submit your sponsor info, or just e-mail your info directly to rinimarcus@aol.com . Your sponsorship will be attached to your child’s team unless you specify otherwise. Contact Rini Marcus at rinimarcus@aol.com or 261-0119 for more information about sponsoring a team.

DONATIONS
When registering, please also consider making a tax-deductible contribution to one or more of the following funds:
Capital Fund - contributions to this fund are used for continued additions and improvements to our fields and facilities.
Scholarship Fund – contributions to this fund help allow Carrollton to include financially underprivileged children in our various programs.
Security Fund – contributions to this fund help Carrollton maintain a visible security force at all our venues.

Special Thanks

Carrollton Boosters would like to extend a special thanks to Isidore Newman School its administrations and staff. Newman has graciously rented to Carrollton the use of its gyms for games and practices, contributing to the success and growth of our basketball program over the years.

Sportsmanship

Teaching sportsmanship is and should always be a top priority for each of us in the Carrollton Booster Club. For this reason, a Sportsmanship Award is awarded in each league to the team whose players, coaches, and parents demonstrate the highest level of sportsmanship throughout the season. It is our intent that this award be the most coveted of any award given at Carrollton Boosters, and we will continue to encourage all Carrollton Boosters athletes, parents, and coaches to exemplify the highest levels of sportsmanship.
