ABOUT THE BASKETBALL PROGRAM
The
season runs roughly from mid-January until the end of
March. Games are expected to be played on the Isidore
Newman School campus, most being held at the Tuohy Gym
on Danneel St., with some games possibly being
scheduled at the Palaestra on Jefferson Ave. We also
plan to use the De La Salle High School gym, as we did
last year, for practices and for games in our 12-13
Boys league.
There is a mixed 5-year old league for boys and girls
who were 5 on August 31, 2009. This is an introductory
league which plays on Saturdays, combining practices
with controlled scrimmages against an opposing team.
Boys who were 6 or 7 years old on August 31, 2009 play
in the 6-7 Boys developmental league, which also has a
Saturday schedule of practices and games. Time
constraints on Saturdays could cause some of the games
in the 6-7 League to be moved to weekday evenings.
All other players will be graded and placed in leagues
according to the grading schedule below. These leagues
will generally play their games on weekday evenings
Monday through Thursday. Game times are normally 6:30,
7:30, and, for some of the older leagues, 8:30. We will
schedule as few games at 8:30 as possible. Practices
can be on weekends and/or weekday evenings, and will be
scheduled by the individual coaches.
If you cannot commit your child to attend at least two
thirds of the scheduled games and practices, please do
not register him or her for the Basketball
program.
For more information on the Basketball program, contact
Darren Mire at 913-9692 or at
basketball@carrolltonboosters.org.

leagues, contact Rini Marcus at 261-0119 or

ONLINE REGISTRATION
Carrollton
Boosters is now accepting registrations online. Simply
click the
registration link
on the left-hand side of our home page at
carrolltonboosters.org, and follow the instructions.
You may pay your registration fees by credit card
online, or you may send a check per the instructions.
Please note that the option to pay by check is intended
to convenience those of you who are either unable or
unwilling to pay by credit card on line, and is not
intended to be used as an extension of time to pay
registration fees. Thus,
your registration will not be considered complete until
we have received your payment.
The registration fee is
$125 for
the first child and
$100 for
each additional child. Each family is encouraged, if
able, to contribute additional funds to financially
assist the Carrollton Booster Club in its effort to
provide quality sports programs for your children.
Registration is on a first come, first served basis, so
we urge you to register your children as soon as
possible. If leagues fill up, children will be placed
on a waiting list, with no guarantee that they will be
able to participate in the program.
If we are unable to place your child in a league, the
registration fee will be refunded. However, no refunds
will be issued for children once they have been drafted
onto a team, except in cases of illness or injury,
without approval of the Carrollton Board of Directors.
If you have any questions concerning registration,
contact Alan Godchaux at 861-1473 or at
registrar@carrolltonboosters.org.

PLAYER DRAFT
Each
player in every league, including the beginner leagues,
is selected for a team through a player draft. This is
a true draft. The Carrollton Booster Club cannot
entertain requests that a child be placed on a certain
team or with certain children. Also, parents should be
aware that a coach who wants a particular player on
his/her team may not be able to draft that player
because the player was selected by another team before
the coach had the opportunity to pick that player.
Teams should be drafted by January 18, 2010, and the
season will begin shortly thereafter. Your
child’s coach will contact you concerning
practice and game schedules after the player draft.
COACHES *** WE NEED COACHES ***
The
Carrollton Basketball program, as well as the other
Carrollton sports programs, depends on the willingness
of adults, primarily parents, to volunteer their time
and effort to coach the young children in our program.
Coaching is a great way to support Carrollton Boosters,
help children in their personal and athletic
development, and build a stronger relationship with
your own child. It can be a very rewarding, positive
experience for you and the children you coach!
We are looking for adults who not only are
knowledgeable about basketball but who will also
set good examples in leadership and sportsmanship for
our children. We
urge all adults who are interested in coaching to
contact Darren Mire at 913-9692 or at
basketball@carrolltonboosters.org.
SPONSORS *** WE NEED SPONSORS ***
We
will need approximately 50 team sponsors (one per team)
for our Basketball Program. The cost of a sponsorship
is $255, which underwrites the cost of the team shirts
for the players. The sponsor provides the team name and
any special artwork for the team shirts. Your child
will be placed on the team you sponsor unless you
request to be a floating sponsor. Sign up early and get
the best choice of shirt colors.
If
sponsoring, please so indicate when registering your
child. Upon completion of your registration, return to
our website, click on the
Sponsor Form link,
and submit your sponsorship information. Please contact
Rini Marcus, 261-0119 or
rinimarcus@aol.com,
for more information regarding sponsoring a basketball
team this year.
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN, SECURITY and SCHOLARSHIP
FUNDS
We
are asking for your help in raising much-needed funds,
so please consider contributing to our Capital
Campaign. While we cannot all coach or sponsor a team,
it is our hope that all
Carrollton
families will contribute something
to
our Capital Campaign. Please give this serious
consideration and include a Capital Campaign
contribution with your registration. Any such
contribution is tax deductible.
We also request contributions to our
Security and
Scholarship
Funds
to
help address the costs associated with these aspects of
our program. If you can, please make a contribution to
either or both funds. We encourage all children to
participate in our athletic programs regardless of
their family’s ability to pay, and we have made a
commitment to maintain a highly visible security force
at all Carrollton venues.
SPORTSMANSHIP
Teaching
sportsmanship is and should always be a top priority
for each of us in the Carrollton Booster Club. For this
reason, a Sportsmanship Award is awarded in each league
to the team whose players, coaches, and parents
demonstrate the highest level of sportsmanship
throughout the season. It is our intent that this award
be the most coveted of any award given at Carrollton
Boosters, and we will continue to encourage all
Carrollton Boosters athletes, parents, and coaches to
exemplify the highest levels of sportsmanship.
SPECIAL THANKS
Carrollton
Boosters would like to extend a special thanks to
Isidore Newman School and De La Salle High School, and
to their respective administrations and staff. Newman
has graciously rented to Carrollton the use of its gyms
for games and practices, contributing to the success
and growth of our basketball program over the years. De
La Salle has generously allowed us use of its gym the
past two years, and we plan to have our older
boys’ league play there again this
year.
Special Thanks
